Planning on hosting a Superbowl party this year? Superbowl Sunday is right around the corner—on Sunday, February 7, 2010—so it's time to start brainstorming about your menu, decorations, beverages, and entertainment. Here are a few ideas to help you get the process rolling.

Consider a regional theme. Are you pulling for one of the teams playing in the big game? This year the Indianapolis Colts will take on the New Orleans Saints, so take a cue from your favorite team’s city or region and use it as a unifying theme to plan your decorations and menu.

Keep the finger foods flowing. Chips, dip, mini-meatballs, nachos, snack mix, flavored popcorn, sliders, buffalo wings, or anything that can be consumed without cutlery is sure to be a hit. Need a few ideas? Click here for game time party recipes.

Throw a pigskin potluck party. Ask each guest to contribute a football-related food or drink item, and dole out prizes for the most creative interpretation of this request.

Take one for the team. If your party guests are planning on downing more than a few cold ones during the big game, line up a few friends to serve as designated drivers for the event.

If you’re hosting a Superbowl party this year, don’t sweat it. Nobody’s expecting anything elaborate – just set out a few bowls of snacks, throw more beer in the cooler, and let the fun begin!
